9" Big Berkey Replacement Filters Sterasyl™ Ceramic Water Filter Element (9" x 1.9") The Sterasyl™ grade ceramic is designed to remove suspended solids and pathogenic bacteria. These filters have approximately 85% more capacity and life than the standard 7" filter elements. Composition of the Sterasyl™ ceramic contains pure silver. This silver is a specially formulated self-sterilizing (bacteriostatic) agent. The result is that bacterial growth is prevented from occurring within the Sterasyl™ ceramic element (which is possible with the other ceramic filter elements.) More importantly, bacterial 'grow-through' is eliminated. This silver content is about 0.07%, which is well within the allowable levels recommended by the World Health Organization and the E.P.A. Because of the silver, Sterasyl™ filter elements do not require sterilization after cleaning. The Sterasyl™ ceramic is the ceramic used for the Super Sterasyl™ filter element. Accordingly, this filter element will have, at a minimum, the filtration benefits of Sterasyl™. The Sterasyl™ filter, when used in a Doulton HIP in-line housing (Model Designations: HIP/Sterasyl™), is certified by the National Sanitation Foundation (NSF) as meeting their Standard No 53 (health) criteria. Standard No 42 pertains to self-sterilizing (bacteriostatic) effects and particulate reduction. Standard No 53 pertains to cyst and turbidity reduction. Super Sterasyl™ Candle Water Filter Element This cleanable filter element is designed to reduce suspended solids, pathogenic bacteria, organic chemicals, and improve taste and odor. The filter elements are produced using the latest ceramic techniques to provide a hollow porous ceramic which is fired at a temperature in excess of 10000C. They are designed to operate with water flow going from the outside to inside of the element. The ceramic shell exhibits a strictly controlled pore structure, so as to provide efficient sub-micron filtration, a proven defense against hard shelled parasites such as Cryptosporidium, as well as removing other less harmful, but equally unpleasant particulate debris, such as rust and dirt. The bore of the filter candle contains granular activated carbon that aids in the removal of chlorine, reduces organic chemicals and improves the color, taste, and odor of the source water. The Sterasyl™ element has a unique domed ceiling assuring that leakage cannot occur as may happen with capped filters. Maximum working pressure 125 psig Maximum working temperature 1000 F Minimum working temperature 400 F Contaminant Reduction and Removal Pathogenic bacteria Cholera, Typhoid, Salmonella, Serratia, E.Coli, Fecal Coliform > 99.99% removal Cysts Cryptosporidium Parvum and Giardia Lamblia - 100% removal (based on tests by Arizona State University) Sediment Down to 0.9 micron, 100%; 0.5 - 0.8 micron with a filter efficiency of > 99.99% (based on tests by Spectrum Laboratories, Minneapolis, MN) Organic Chemicals Pesticides, herbicides, organic solvents, trihalomethanes Other Chemicals: Chlorine Bacterial mitosis and 'grow-through' Mitosis is the name for the usual method of bacterial cell division. This division is characterized by resolving the chromatin of the cell nucleus into a threadlike form that condenses into chromosomes, each of which separates longitudinally into two parts, one part of each chromosome being retained in each of the two new daughter cells. When conditions of growth (cell division) are right (proper environmental conditions, temperature, pressure, etc.) and sufficient nutrients, the 'threadlike forms' can penetrate the ceramic structure of other ceramic shells and create bacterial cells on the inside of the element. Sterasyl™ grade filter elements incorporate pure silver into the porous ceramic shell to prevent 'grow-through' from occurring. 9" Imperial Super Sterasyl Replacement Elements (9" x 2.75") These filters have approximately 85% more capacity and life than the standard 7" filter elements. The Sterasyl™ grade ceramic is designed to remove suspended solids and pathogenic bacteria. These filters are ONLY meant for use in the Imperial Berkey and Crown Berkey Water Filtration Systems. They are NOT meant for use in the Big Berkey Water Filtration System. Composition of the Sterasyl™ ceramic contains pure silver. Filter Reduction Elements for British Berkefeld Filtration System PF-4 reduction elements are designed for use in conjunction with British Berkefeld and Berkey series of water filters to adsorb the following four unwanted elements most commonly found in drinking water. * MTBE (Methyl-tertiary-butyl-ether) * Fluoride * Lead * Arsenic PF-4 filters are also designed to adsorb: * DBCP (Dibromo-chloro-propane) * THMs (trihalomethanes) * Herbicides & Pesticides * Heavy Metal ions TECHNICAL INFORMATION: MTBE: The PF-4 is manufactured to exceed ANSI/NSF Standard 53 which requires that MTBE be reduced by at least two thirds from an influent rate (water going in) of 15ppb to an effluent rate (water going out) of less than 5ppb (> 95% reduction*). LEAD: Tests have shown that when 2000 gallon of influent water at a concentration of lead of 150-200 ppb pass through 200 grams of media at a flow rate of 1gpm, the lead level was reduced to less than 1ppb (>99% reduction). FLOURIDE: Testing for fluoride was based on 20-30ppm of the ion in the influent aqueous solution at a flow rate of no more than 3 gpm per cubic foot of media. Results of < 1ppm of the fluoride ion in the effluent were typical for the media (>95% reduction). Under optimum conditions, effluent concentrations of less than 50 ppb were readily achieved (>99.75% reduction). PF-2 Flouride & Arsenic Reduction Filters - for Black Berkey Purification Elements. Set of 2 will typically treat 1,000 gallons of water. Theyre new and they are more powerful than any gravity filter element on the market. In fact, we tested the Black Berkey purification element with more than 10,000 times the concentration of pathogens per liter than is required by standard test protocol. This concentration of pathogens is so great that the post filtered water should be expected to contain 100,000 or more pathogens per liter (99.99% reduction - the requirement for pathogenic removal). Incredibly the Black Berkey removed 100%, with absolutely no pathogens detectable, setting a new standard in water purification. The powerful Black Berkey replacement elements also remove or reduce pathogenic cysts, parasites, harmful or unwanted chemicals such as herbicides and pesticides, VOCs, SOCs detergents, organic solvents, trihalomethanes, cloudiness, silt, sediment, nitrates, nitrites, heavy metals, foul tastes and odors. Yet they leave in the healthful and beneficial minerals that your body needs and Most existing gravity filtration systems can be retrofitted with Black Berkey elements, which upgrades them to gravity purifiers.
